Portal of the Transition to IPv6 for Latin America and Caribbean

Did you know...?

The header of IPv6 packets is more efficient than that of IPv4 packets? This is because:

  • The header has a fixed length.
  • Fields containing redundant information have been removed.
  • Because it is 64-bit aligned, it allows improved processing for the new generation of processors.

All of this despite the fact that... the new headers are exactly twice the size as those of IPv4 packets!
